Rooftop tents are all the rage these days from regular folks, to college kids and all the way up to full time explorers and overlanders. Rooftop tents are fairly new to the market, they were introduced to the outdoor world by a few companies back somewhere between 2014-2016. Now in 2019 these rooftop tents are made by over a dozen or more manufacturers all over the world. Recently, a few of the original manufactures were purchased by larger brands that own many trademarks.
One of the well-known names in the market is iKamper with its Skycamp 2.0 and Skycamp 4.0 which can fit a queen sized bed and a family of four….. Say Whaa? Four people sleeping on the roof of a car…! Sounds a little much, but that hasn’t stopped this brand or any of the rooftop tent companies from cashing in on this hot market.
Starting price on most of these tents ranges from $1500 to $3000 dollars….yes that’s right $3k. The iKamper Skycamp 2.0 starts at $3,899.00 with features like a 1.8” thick memory foam mattress.
The tent shell can be changed from canvas for cooler weather to their Airflow Summer tent material for warmer weather. The Skycamp rooftop tents also feature floors made from insulating honeycomb aluminum panels that are strong and lightweight.
iKamper also released a portable kitchen this year. The portable kitchen product segment was a popular item at this years Outdoor Retailer Summer Market trade show. This sweet little package they call Aioks (All in One Outdoor Kitchen System) is a kitchen counter setup with support legs that folds up into a tidy box with wheels for easy transport. With the popularity of rooftop tents there are more customers who want accessories to go along with it like portable kitchens…we saw Sylvansport also release a portable kitchen this season and there are a few other brands with similar offerings.
Moving forward, the features, durability and move-ability of these portable kitchens is going to be the deciding factor in why someone buys one. The Aioks has some awesome thought out features that keep it simple, lightweight and very useable.
The Aioks’ main body is made from aluminum to keep it light. The wood fold out “countertop” portions serve as food prep and eating areas.
