10 Tips for First Time Sea Otter Classic Exhibitors

10 Tips for First Time Sea Otter Classic Exhibitors

The annual Sea Otter Classic is the world’s largest cycling festival. It is the “season opener” for the industry. Hundreds of brands will arrive in Monterey, California for the event April 19-22, 2018.

Many companies attend year after year and have their systems perfected! For newer brands, we wanted to share a few helpful tips to make the investment even more profitable.

  1. Update (or create) your DemoDays.com account with specifics. Tell people what brands, models, sizes will be available.  Tell them who they can expect to talk with at the booth or create a special coupon to create more foot traffic.  The more info you provide the better, people are more willing to show up at your booth if you tell them beforehand what they can expect to find.

  2. Add your events to the Sea Otter Classic Event Calendar

  3. Share your product news with Bicycle Retailer *ASAP by Friday, March 9th

  4. Check out our complete list of DemoDays.com demo tips

  5. Is your business headquarters near Monterey? Share your factory demo program for folks traveling and looking for more demo opportunities.

  6. Advertise in the Sea Otter Festival & Gear Guide with ads starting at $450. 40K copies distributed to attendees, local retailers and Bicycle Leadership conference attendees. Valuable audience with trade and consumer readers.(Contact Info Here)

  7. Be sure to get on both the Sea Otter (via homepage) and Bicycle Retailer email lists so you have news and reminders in your inbox

  8. Book your travel and accommodations right away.

  9. Be sure to pack the following for the long days out at the venue:

    1. Food: Plenty of food options available but it’s nice to bring your own water, snacks and thermos of coffee

    2. Clothing: Comfortable shoes are essential for standing and walking all day. Jackets and layers are important for windy, rainy, cold weather.

    3. First Aid & Sun Protection: Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, lip balm with spf, band-aids in your wallet, hand sanitizer or wet wipes are nice too

    4. Work Stuff: Sharpie for taking notes on business cards, extra business cards, backup battery and charging cord for your phone, notebook, electrical tape and zip ties for last minute repairs

    5. Stay Organized: Bring a backpack to keep all your gear together and so your hands are free in case you need to carry extra stuff in/out of the venue.

  10. Use OpenTable.com to book dinner reservations for your group

The event is fun and you’ll see a lot of friendly faces. Don’t hesitate to ask the staff or your “booth neighbors” for help or to borrow anything you may have forgotten. The local Home Depot folks are incredible for sorting out any last minute projects too!
