In 1931, a contractor named Henry Alexander Robinson (HAR) developed a clay court surface using American stone first mined in Pennsylvania. The stone’s true green color, and the true bounce that came from playing on it, quickly caught on — and the Har-Tru company was born.

Since then, Har-Tru has grown into the world’s premiere clay-court company. More than 88% of the world’s champions learned to play on clay, and the benefits of a Har-Tru surface to players are many — including developing a complete all-court game with essential core footwork and balance skills, improving player endurance, and reducing stress and injury during play.
